The Lagoni Natural Park
Just a few steps from Il Torchio, a unique natural oasis awaits you. This charming park features flat paths winding through ponds, wetlands, and woodlands. It is the perfect spot for those who love rejuvenating walks, cycling excursions, and birdwatching, with many species of wild animals to spot. Furthermore, the park treasures an ancient history: here you can discover important archaeological sites with the remains of pile-dwelling settlements declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Town of "Arona"
Located less than a 5-minute drive (or a pleasant bike ride) from Dormelletto, Arona is the "capital" of the Lower Lake Maggiore. Vibrant, elegant, and rich in history, this town offers the perfect blend of culture, relaxation by the lakeside, and exclusive shopping. (Free Parking: Aldo Moro)
The Sancarlone Colossus
Just 10 minutes from Il Torchio, in the neighboring town of Arona, stands one of the most iconic and impressive monuments of Lake Maggiore: the Colossus of Saint Charles Borromeo, affectionately called "Il San Carlone" by locals. Towering at 35 meters high, this majestic copper and bronze masterpiece has dominated the Sacro Monte hill since 1698. For over two centuries, it held the record as the tallest statue in the world, inspiring the construction of the Statue of Liberty in New York.
The "Rocca" (Rock) of Arona
Just a few minutes' drive from Il Torchio, perched on a spectacular cliff overlooking the water, stands the "Rocca di Arona". It is one of the most scenic photo spots in the area, offering a panoramic view over the town of Arona, the lake, and Angera Castle. Founded in the Middle Ages and later controlled by the powerful Borromeo family, the fortress was the birthplace of Saint Charles Borromeo in 1538.
The Borromean Islands
A short distance from Dormelletto lies one of the most beautiful historical and scenic complexes in the world: the archipelago of the Borromean Islands (Isola Madre, Isola Bella, Isola dei Pescatori). A perfect blend of Baroque art, dream botanical gardens, and ancient fishing villages.
Lake of Orta
Just a 30-minute drive west of Lake Maggiore, separated by the majestic Mottarone mountain, lies a hidden gem of rare beauty: Lake Orta. A small body of water nestled among dense woods and mountains, famous for its crystal-clear waters, peaceful atmosphere, and a medieval village straight out of a fairytale. Don't miss the splendid Isola di San Giulio, a medieval jewel located in the center of the lake and entirely explorable on foot. Reachable in just a few minutes by motorboat from the village.
Mottarone Mountain
Just a 50-minute drive away, Mottarone (1492 meters) is a must-see stop. It is famous for being the viewpoint from which you can admire 7 lakes at the same time (Maggiore, Orta, Mergozzo, Varese, Comabbio, Monate, and Biandronno). Enjoy trekking through the woods, mountain bike trails, and relaxation in mountain huts while tasting typical Piedmontese cuisine.
The Hermitage of Santa Caterina del Sasso (Leggiuno)
An extraordinary monastery carved directly into the rock, sheer over the waters of the lake. It is one of the most photographed and spiritual places on the entire Lake Maggiore. By car from Dormelletto (about 35-40 minutes driving along the Lombard shore towards Leggiuno). There is a convenient free parking lot at the top, and you can descend to the Hermitage via a charming staircase or an elevator carved into the rock.
The Botanical Gardens of Villa Taranto (Verbania)
Located about 35 minutes by car north of Dormelletto, these gardens are considered among the most beautiful in the world. An immense botanical heritage with over 20,000 plant varieties from every corner of the planet. The blooms change continuously throughout the months: in spring you can admire the famous Tulip Labyrinth, in summer the spectacular Giant Water Lilies (Victoria Cruziana), and in autumn the Dahlias.
Pallavicino Park (Stresa)
Situated right at the gates of Stresa (about 20 minutes by car from Dormelletto), Pallavicino Park is an 18-hectare natural oasis that combines a splendid 19th-century neoclassical villa, botanical gardens, and an animal rescue center.
Safari Park (Pombia)
Just a 15-minute drive south of Il Torchio in Dormelletto, you will find one of the most important wildlife and amusement parks in Northern Italy. It is a must-see stop if you are traveling with children.

If during your stay on Lake Maggiore you want to experience the energy of a great cosmopolitan metropolis, Milan is the ideal destination. Just about an hour away from Dormelletto, you can immerse yourself in a day filled with art, historical monuments, cutting-edge architecture, and world-renowned shopping.
